Hand-Bent Neon Signs Built to Glow for Decades
Custom neon signs, neon sign repair and wholesale glass from a working Colorado Springs neon shop. Real glass, real gas, quality work at reasonable rates, and a one-year guarantee on everything we make.
Four ways we put light to work
From a single glowing word in a shop window to wholesale tube runs for Colorado sign companies, every piece is bent, processed and lit by hand in our Colorado Springs workshop.
How a neon sign is born
Neon is still made the old way: by hand, over a flame, one bend at a time. Here's what happens between your idea and the first glow.
- Step 01
Design
We turn your sketch, logo or wording into a full-size pattern, choosing tube colors and letter heights that read from across the room.
- Step 02
Bend
Glass tubing is heated over ribbon burners and bent by hand to match the pattern, curve by curve and letter by letter.
- Step 03
Bombard
Electrodes go on, then the tube is heated in a bombarder to burn out impurities so the glow stays clean and long-lasting.
- Step 04
Pump & Fill
We pull each tube down to a deep vacuum and backfill it with neon for warm reds or argon for blues, greens and whites.
- Step 05
Light Up
The finished sign is aged in, tested and mounted, then handed over with a one-year guarantee on the work.

A real neon bender, not a reseller
Boyd Struble has been bending neon since the mid-1980s. He learned the trade in Denver and opened Boyd's NEON in Colorado Springs in 2001. When most of the industry switched to LED, he kept the burners lit, and today the shop is one of the few places in southern Colorado still making neon by hand.

Neon questions, answered
Real glass neon has a soft, 360-degree glow and depth that LED flex can't copy, and a well-made neon tube can run for decades. LED is cheaper up front. We build genuine glass neon and are happy to talk through which suits your space and budget.
Yes. About half of our work is repairs. We can re-bend cracked or broken sections, re-pump and refill tubes that have gone dim or flickery, and restore vintage signs. Bring it to the shop or send photos for a quote.
We do. We supply Colorado sign companies with processed neon glass for new projects and replacement tubes for repairs on existing signs. Call or email with your patterns and we'll quote the job.
All of our work, from new custom signs to repairs, comes with a one-year guarantee. If something we made or fixed fails under normal use in that year, we'll make it right.
Call 719-391-0466, email boyd@boydsneon.com or use the form on this page. Share your wording or artwork, the approximate size, colors and where the sign will hang, and we'll get back to you with a price.
Neon gas glows a warm red-orange, while argon in coated glass gives blues, greens, pinks, purples and whites, so most palettes are possible. Sizes range from small window pieces to large statement signs; we'll advise on what reads best for your space.
We're at 5735 Industrial Place, Unit C, Colorado Springs, CO 80916, near the airport. The shop is open Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 4:30pm, and closed on weekends.
