Neon window signs made in Colorado Springs

A window is the first thing people see of your business, and after sundown it can be the only thing. A glowing neon sign turns that glass into an invitation. Custom window signs are available on request at Boyd's NEON, bent by hand by Boyd Struble, who has been working in the neon industry for more than 30 years and has run his own Colorado Springs shop since 2001.

Why neon works in a window

Real neon glows from every side of the tube, a soft 360-degree light that carries down the block and reads clearly through the glass at night. It catches the eye of drivers and people walking past long before they reach your door. It also has character. LED strips can imitate the shape, but the warmth and depth of lit glass is what makes passersby stop and look. For many owners, that glow becomes part of the identity of the place.

Ideas for your window

If it can be drawn as a line, it can usually be bent in glass. Window neon often includes:

  • OPEN signs in your own colors and lettering, not an off-the-shelf box.
  • Your business name or a short tagline in script or block letters.
  • Menu items, like the "Soft Cream, Hot Cookies, Thai Buns" sign below, that tell people exactly what's inside.
  • Logos and brand marks translated into a clean neon outline.
  • Tattoo studios with a classic "Tattoo" sign or flash-style art.
  • Bars and breweries lighting up a name, a pint glass or a house motto.
  • Salons and barbers, coffee shops and boutiques that want a signature glow.

Sized to your glass

Every window is different, so we build to yours. When you ask for a quote, share the width and height of the window, how much of it you want the sign to fill, and roughly how far away people will be when they read it. Letter height, stroke spacing and layout all depend on that viewing distance, and we'll suggest what will read best from the sidewalk or the street.

Choosing colors

Neon gas on its own glows a warm red-orange. Argon with mercury, sealed in phosphor-coated or colored glass, gives blues, greens, pinks and whites. A single window sign can mix several tubes, so it can match your brand palette or simply stand out from the storefronts around it.

Hanging and mounting in a window

Window neon is commonly hung from chains or set on a frame or backing just behind the glass, close to an outlet. Every storefront is a little different, so tell us about your window, its frame and where the nearest power is, and we'll advise on a mounting approach that keeps the sign secure and easy to service.

Backed by a one-year guarantee

All of our work comes with a one-year guarantee. If a window sign we built fails under normal use in that first year, we'll make it right. And because it's real glass neon, it can be repaired later instead of replaced.

Simple care tips

Neon asks for very little. A few general habits help a window sign look its best:

  • Unplug the sign before cleaning, then dust the tubes gently with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Keep moisture away from the tubes and electrical parts, including window condensation and cleaning sprays.
  • Give the sign a little breathing room and avoid bumping or leaning things against the glass.
  • If a section flickers, dims or goes dark, switch it off and call us rather than handling the wiring.
